The Chain Gang is Good - Find Out Why!

What We Offer

Provence - Lavender Field copyright Jan Tyler

The main aim of the week is that we have fun. We provide good bikes, mostly TREK hybrids and a variety of road-bikes. We have built up a network of good local contacts, we eat and drink well and we have a good time.

On this website you'll find more information about each of our cycling tours, as well as particularly interesting features of the regions we explore. We have also included more information about our company and cycling tours in general.

If you have any questions at all, you're welcome to contact us by telephone or email. I look forward to seeing you soon.

We're Fun to Be With

Whichever one of our cycling holidays you choose, our philosophy is pretty simple.

Every area we've chosen is fascinating in its own right - whether for the scenery of Provence and the Dordogne, the chateaux of the Loire Valley, or the hill towns and renaissance architecture of Tuscany and Umbria.

On our tours we aim to explore everything that's best about a region, and to provide the most interesting itinerary of any cycling holiday company.

Bordeaux - Pouring Red Wine copyright 2003 Donald Gruener

We always tour in groups of up to 15 people, with a guide who accompanies you on the road and who,

  • fixes bikes
  • shows you the way
  • points out the most interesting features, and
  • generally ensures your cycling holiday is as trouble-free as it can be.

Cycling, Food and Wine

Dordogne - La Roque Gageac copyright The Chain Gang

A big feature of all our tours is the cuisine. Wherever we go we try to sample the best the locality has to offer.

Now that such a variety of good food is available wherever we live, it's especially interesting to visit regions where the cuisine is still distinctive.

The duck, goose and foie gras of the Dordogne, the olive oils of Tuscany, the fresh herbs of Provence and the huge variety of traditional dishes that come from Burgundy.

Each region is different, and some have a richer food tradition than others, but we'll certainly show you what they offer. Slimming? No, but gorgeous!

We also explore the wines of a region. Our Bordeaux tour visits up to a dozen vineyards throughout the week, and in the Loire Valley, Tuscany and Burgundy we also explore the wine traditions of the region with gusto.
